Our skin says a lot about us.

It changes according to what we are going through, positive or negative.

Remember, for example, the last time you felt rested. Maybe you were on holiday, spending time in nature, with the people you love. Do you remember how your skin felt? You looked at it; it was clean and smooth. You touched it; it was soft and silky. You, yourself, how did you feel? You closed your eyes and felt comfortable and relaxed.

We all know how important a good “skin feeling” is. It changes a moment or a day and it can change a life.

Most beauty products such as skin care, moisturisers, toners, masks or serums are solutions that exist to cure problems or to correct the skin’s appearance. They promise to refresh, revitalise and even regenerate your skin to treat such problems.

Our sponsor believes there is a new way to take care of our skin, by looking at emotional feelings from skin, rather than visible skin problems. What if my skin could talk? What would it tell me if it was able to communicate with me?

In this contest we ask you to imagine what would happen if your skin could talk and tell us how it feels.

Be the ambassador of your skin! Show us what your skin feels, senses and goes through, and bring it to life in a coherent story.

We already know the negative things that are linked to skin problems.  For example, in cold weather or when we are coping with pollution, our skin becomes chapped and dry. Because we don’t feel good, the skin does not look good, and so we feel even worse.

We are already aware of the visible issues our skin faces. What we are asking you to do, is to go beyond the visible, dive under your skin and bring its emotions to life, be it a good or a bad moment.

We’d like you to capture different elements that will help us understand how your skin feels.

There are three areas you should cover:

  1. A life moment: choose a moment where your skin feels special - good or bad. You should choose a moment that’s a trigger. It’s a moment that makes your skin want to share its feelings because it feels simply different than usual. It may be outside your bathroom, at a different moment than the ones when you usually apply skincare. But a very special moment when your skin would really want to say something to you. Describe this moment and how the different parts of your skin feel. As stated above, we already know a lot about the bad visible aspects of skin. We’d like you to open our eyes to what the skin feels like intimately. Describe the moment and how your skin looks, how it feels when you touch it and what its emotions and feelings are. Give us lots of words, sentences, quotes.
  1. Based on this trigger (moment), bring how your skin feels to life.
  • Use parallels to tell us how your skin would feel if it were something else. For instance: If my skin were a landscape or a meal, it would be … You can find about 4 or 5 “if my skin were…” and complete the sentences.
  • Visually show how your skin feels by creating a mood board. Compile some pictures, sketches or drawings that evoke how your skin looks, the touch sensations and its feelings at this moment in your life.
They can be images you take in nature, at home, anywhere, or pictures you get from the Internet, magazines or elsewhere. Images of textures, fabrics, sensations, people, colours… anything!
  1. Expected experiences: tell us what your skin wants and needs at that moment. Imagine a solution that could make a good feeling last or a bad one go away. It can be a product, a gesture, an experience; feel free to give your skin what it needs!

The trigger for the skin to share its feelings could be the moment when I step out of the tub. My skin is warm and soft. It’s like waking up after a deep nap and coming back to a world of sensations. It wants to share its sensations and feelings because it’s different from other moments. I can see it’s fluffy and smooth. When I touch it, it’s warm, velvety and almost a bit thick. It’s quite pleasant. Also, because my skin is wet, I like the feeling of air on it. The contrast is totally unique.

If my skin was a colour at that moment, it would be white, like a cloud. If it was a fruit, it would be a fig, because it’s fleshy and sensual. If it were a dessert, if would be whipped cream. If it was an artist, it would be a cello player because the sound a cello makes is deep and low.

The mood board could be in pastel colours and floral textures. It could have natural lighting and images of blooming flowers. It could have images of people sleeping and a light feather flying in the air.

The expected experience my skin desires at that moment is to lie on sand.  Because the skin is soft and smooth, the sensations of the scratchy sand would be a bit disturbing yet very pleasurable. My skin would also like to feel very fresh water splashed on it to awaken it.
